  • During the peak years of the Sacred Defense (Iran‑Iraq War), in order to reduce administrative bureaucracy in the country and to enable a dedicated body to procure the medical equipment required for treating war casualties, the Office of the Board of Trustees for the Foreign Currency Provision Clause was established. After the war, due to the valuable services provided during that period, it was decided that a bill be submitted to Parliament to establish a legal institution to preserve these objectives. Following parliamentary approval, the Board of Trustees for Foreign Exchange Savings in the Treatment of Patients was established in 1999.

  • The Board of Trustees for Foreign Exchange Savings in the Treatment of Patients was established pursuant to the law approved by the Islamic Consultative Assembly on 21 December 1999 (1378/09/21 in the Iranian calendar) in order to achieve the following overarching objectives:

a) Creating the conditions necessary for treating all patients within the country

b) Eliminating the need to send patients abroad for treatment

c) Saving foreign currency in patients’ medical expenses

  • Since its establishment, the Board of Trustees has taken effective steps toward achieving these objectives through the implementation of the following program areas:

a) Supporting various types of organ transplantation within the country (heart, lung, liver, kidney, and bone marrow transplants)

b) Assuming responsibility for strategic guidance and support of cochlear implant surgeries for deaf patients

c) Supplying vital consumable medical items required by patients

d) Providing capital equipment required by treatment centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health
